Yvonne Wengström is an oncology nurse and has worked in cancer care since 1989 and holds a PhD in oncology and is Professor in Nursing. She holds a joint position between the university and the hospital and currently works as a Director of Nursing development at Karolinska comprehensive Cancer Center at Karolinska University Hospital and she is a senior researcher at the Karolinska Institutet and leads a research team at the Department of Nursing.

Dr Wengström has developed her research career with focus on symptom improvement and breast cancer and is now recognised as a nurse leader in projects around screening, innovative interventions using e-health in cancer care, physical exercise studies, experience-based co-design and is an advocate for transferring research outcomes into practice. She is also a member of several international committees and has been the President of the European Oncology Nursing Society, has participated as invited speaker at many international conferences, and is widely published. She is one of the founding members of the global network for collaboration the International Learning Committee (ILC) intlearningcollab.org, that focuses on Fundamentals of Care by integrating clinical practice, research, and education to promote excellence in fundamental care and developing research evidence through the systematic investigation of fundamentals of care in healthcare systems globally.

Föreläsningens titel: Historien om CAR-T – hur det började och hur det har fortsatt

Gunilla Enblad är en pionjär inom utvecklingen av CAR-T – en avancerad form av immunterapi som innebär att patientens egna T-celler modifieras och odlas för att sedan ges tillbaka. Hennes forskargrupp var först i Europa med att prova den banbrytande behandlingsmetoden och trots att hon numera är en av de mest erfarna är hon fortfarande väldigt fascinerad av forskningsområdet. I sin roll som ordförande i RCC:s CAR-T-grupp leder hon nu arbetet för att stödja införandet av behandlingen över hela Sverige.

Gunilla Enblad har och har haft en ledande roll i utvecklingen av CAR-T. Hon jobbar både kliniskt med metoden och har fortsatt forska med syfte att öka kunskapen om biologin och mekanismerna för att utveckla användningen av CAR-T.

Kjetil Taskén

Föreläsningens titel: Advancing Precision Cancer Medicine by Building National Initiatives and via European Collaboration

Kjetil Taskén was appointed Professor of Medicine in 2001 and has since 2018 served as Head of the Institute of Cancer Research, Oslo University Hospital (OUH) where he is also Group Leader for the Cell Signaling and Immune Regulation Group. He is part of the OUH Comprehensive Cancer Centre leadership and is from 2021 Director of the OUH Centre for Precision Cancer Medicine.

More recently he has been key in building the national cancer precision medicine initiative for Norway (InPreD molecular diagnostics infrastructure, IMPRESS-Norway national clinical trial and CONNECT public-private partnership). He is a partner in the K.G. Jebsen Centre for B Cell Malignancies and in the new Centre for Clinical Cancer Research (MATRIX).

He serves on several evaluation panels, SABs and Editorial Boards, including the IMI Scientific Committee, and the CRUK New agents committee. IN 2002 he received the Anders Jahre Medical Prize for younger scientists and won the King Olav V’s Prize for Cancer Research (national life-achievement award) in 2016. He was elected to the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters in 2005.

Yolande Lievens

Föreläsningens titel: Paving the way towards Value-Based Radiation Oncology

Apart from her clinical expertise in radiotherapy, focusing on thoracic malignancies, Yolande Lievens has always been closely involved in the organizational aspects of radiotherapy, in the position of radiotherapy within multidisciplinary oncology, and in the financial and health economic aspects of cancer care. She also has an interest in quality issues in radiation oncology, not only in terms of quality assurance but also in the impact of radiation treatments on quality of life. She is a strong advocate of interdisciplinary collaboration among radiotherapy professionals and multidisciplinary collaboration with other oncology care givers. In addition, as former president of ESTRO, she encourages partnership with other stakeholders, be it national radiotherapy societies, patients, industry partners and policy makers.

In view of providing state‐of‐the‐art radiotherapy to all cancer patients who need it, she is convinced that evidence – clinical as well as economical – is key to sustain innovation in and improve access to radiotherapy within often‐limited health care budgets.

Amanda Drury

Dr Amanda Drury is an Associate Professor in General Nursing in the School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health, Dublin City University, Ireland. She has over fifteen years of experience in cancer care across clinical and academic settings, and holds a PhD and MSc in Cancer Care from Trinity College Dublin.

She is a mixed methods researcher. Her research interests span the areas of supportive and palliative care in cancer and chronic illness. Her research aims to enhance understanding of the health and well-being of people affected by cancer, including the personal, social and healthcare factors which influence these outcomes.

She is a member of the European Cancer Mission Board and a Board Member of the European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS), and Chair of the EONS Research Working Group.

Michael Velec

Dr Michael Velec is a Radiation Therapist–Clinician Scientist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and Assistant Professor in Radiation Oncology at the University of Toronto, in Toronto, Canada. He has 17 years experience in cancer care and research focusing on translating novel radiotherapy techniques and strategies into the clinic setting. Michael completed his PhD in medical sciences at the University of Toronto in 2014, and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Techna Institute in 2016.

Dr. Velec has current research interests in dose accumulation for the applications of adaptive radiation therapy and understanding dose-response relationships for tumor control and normal tissue toxicities. His second focus in on the development of new models of care delivered by Radiation Therapists that enables precision medicine and person-centered care. These are being tested in prospective clinical trials. Michael is also engaged in teaching both trainees and practicing health professionals in radiation medicine.
